Douglas Hanly is the Founder, Chief Investment Officer of Emerald Necklace Investments. Doug also serves as the Chief Investment Officer for Atala Financial. He is also a seed investor and Founding Executive of the Global Diversity Fund, a program that provides students of diverse backgrounds the opportunity to manage live capital and gain mentorship.
Doug holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson where he generated the highest returns of all time for the student investment fund. He serves as a guest speaker on entrepreneurship and hedge funds at UCLA. He was named a rising star by the Los Angeles Business Journal. Doug is a CFA charter holder and a CAIA charter holder.
Doug enjoys coaching soccer in his free time. He has coached soccer at the collegiate level and for Soccer Without Borders, a non profit that uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change. Doug played Division 1 soccer at Fordham University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Finance.
Previously, Doug evaluated investment opportunities on behalf of endowment and pension funds with over $20 billion in aggregate assets under management, including Washington University in St. Louis (#1 US endowment return, FY 2021) and Mass General Brigham.
Pieter oversees business development and operations for Emerald Necklace. Pieter is the seed investor and Founding Executive of the Global Diversity Fund, a program that provides students of diverse backgrounds the opportunity to manage live capital and gain mentorship. Pieter has over 30 years of business development experience across a variety of sectors, including real estate, industrials, and entertainment.
Pieter won the MLS Cup as a soccer coach with the LA Galaxy and won the NCAA Championship as a soccer player at UCLA. He also competed in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Pieter has coached college soccer at Harvard University, University of California Berkeley, and Stanford University. Pieter qualified and competed in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Pieter graduated from UCLA in 1990 with a degree in history.
AMy Elefante Bedi
Amy Elefante Bedi serves as an advisor to Emerald Necklace Investments. She has 20 years of experience as an investor in multi-billion dollar endowment and family office settings, most recently Washington University Investment Management Company and BBR Partners. She has a track record of developing effective investment strategies while building strongly collaborative relationships with investment managers and clients. She holds an A.B. with honors from the University of Chicago, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She has been a board member of several charitable organizations. She is a CFA and CAIA charterholder.
Professor Bill Cockrum
Professor Cockrum serves as an advisor to Emerald Necklace Investments. He has taught at UCLA Anderson for 36 years. Prior to joining the UCLA faculty, Cockrum spent 25 years in financial services, initially as a marketer and last as CFO/CAO and one of the top senior officers at Becker Paribas Inc., a 3,000-employee investment banking firm. He is a former member of the UCLA Foundation investment committee and a governor of the Foundation. Cockrum earned a B.A. in Economics from Depauw University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
Cathleen Rittereiser serves as an advisor to Emerald Necklace Investments. She is the co-author of the books Foundation and Endowment Investing and Top Hedge Fund Investors: Stories, Strategies, and Advice and the Founder and CEO of Uncorrelated, LLC, a thought leadership platform and consulting practice for institutional allocators. A frequent speaker and writer on alternative investments and the endowment model, she most recently served as Executive Director of Commonfund Institute. She received an A.B. from Franklin & Marshall College, where she served on the investment committee, and an M.B.A. from NYU Stern School of Business.
